DIY Gutter Cleaning By The Houston Window Guy
If your gutters need some work and you’re not one who prefers to pay someone to come out to your location and service them, here’s some quick things you can do to be sure it’s getting done right. Make sure you take care of this every Spring and Fall as the Houston, TX weather will clog your downspouts.
Gutter Cleaning Quick Tips
- Safety First! – You will probably be using a ladder to clean the gutters of your home so make sure you put the ladder on solid ground. Remove all debris and be sure to follow the safety guidelines of the ladder (don’t use rungs that say do not stand)
- Have some work gloves, two buckets and a trowel. One bucket is for the tools, the other is for the debris. Make sure to also run a hose so you can make cleanup easy.
- Always start with removing the largest debris first. The trowel will then be used to remove other items such as dirt, cobwebs or leaves. Sometimes other much larger items are stuck in the downspout. Things like balls, nests that birds may have left or other items can get lodged in there so you may need to use a snake tool like the kind plumbers use to remove the clog. If this doesn’t work we are available to come and help you.
- Final step and you are done. Use the hose! Clean out any small debris remaining in the gutter. Work from the side the farthest from the downspout and make your way closer. If you do not notice the water draining then you may have a clog like mentioned above so try the snake first and if that doesn’t work call a professional.
I hope these quick tips aid you in getting those gutters sparkling! If you find this is too much of a task, don't hesitate to call our professional gutter cleaner for a free quote!
